First of all, it's pronounced as "conk". Key West prides itself as being the Conch Republic and home of the key lime pie. You most certainly will find local food joints everywhere in Key West serving conch fritters. Actually, conch itself can be served in different ways. As a fritter, it's crunchy outside, looks like a cross between hush puppies and crabcakes, tastes a lot like crabcakes or clams, but mildly sweeter and much more chewy on the inside.
So if you're walking down Duval Street and suddenly get hungry, several of the best restaurants serve conch fritters. I like 'em dipped in sauce or mixed in a salad. How would you eat it?
